This Privacy Policy explains what personal information Impromptu collected, how it was used, and what rights you have over that data. By using the app, you agreed to the practices described here.

We built Impromptu to help students — not to monetize their data. We collected only what was necessary to run the service.

Definitions

A few terms used throughout this policy:

  • Account — a user account created to access Impromptu.
  • Application — the Impromptu app.
  • Company — Impromptu (also "we", "us", "our").
  • Device — any phone, tablet, or computer used to access the app.
  • Personal Data — any information that identifies or could identify you.
  • Usage Data — data automatically generated when you use the app (e.g. session duration, device type).
  • You — the person using Impromptu.

What We Collected

Personal Data

When you created an account, we may have collected:

  • Email address
  • First and last name

Usage Data

We automatically collected basic usage data such as your device's IP address, browser or app version, pages visited, and time spent in the app. On mobile, this may have included your device model and operating system.

How We Used It

Personal data was used to:

  • Create and manage your account
  • Deliver the app's features and personalized feedback
  • Respond to support requests
  • Understand how the app was being used so we could improve it
  • Send occasional product updates (with your consent)

We did not sell your data to third parties.

Data Retention and Deletion

We kept your data only as long as needed to operate the service or as required by law. Now that Impromptu is retired, we are winding down data storage in accordance with applicable regulations.

Disclosure of Your Data

We may have shared your data in limited circumstances:

  • Service providers — third-party vendors that helped us run the app (e.g. cloud hosting). They were bound by confidentiality obligations.

  • Business transfers — in the event of a merger or acquisition, with advance notice to users.

Security

We used commercially reasonable measures to protect your data. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, but we took this responsibility seriously.

Children's Privacy

Impromptu was designed for secondary school students. We did not knowingly collect data from children under 13 without parental consent. If you believe a child under 13 provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will address it promptly.

CCPA Rights (California Residents)

California residents have the right to request disclosure of personal data collected, request deletion, and opt out of the sale of personal information. We have one month to respond to such requests. Contact us at admin@chenglish.hk to exercise these rights.

GDPR Rights (EEA Residents)

If you are in the European Economic Area, you have the right to:

  • Access — request a copy of your personal data.
  • Rectification — request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Erasure — request deletion of your data under certain conditions.
  • Restrict processing — request that we limit how your data is used.
  • Object — object to our processing of your data.
  • Data portability — request that your data be transferred to you or another organization.
